The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday appointed the new fielding coach of the India men’s cricket team Subhadeep Ghosh just a day before India’s two-match Test series against Sri Lanka starts. Ghosh replaces T Dilip, whose contract with the national team has expired.
The 57-year-old Ghosh, a seasoned coach himself, has rich experience of working in the domestic and international circuit. He was on the support staff during these tournaments as the fielding coach of the India Women’s team and has been a part of both 2022 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup and 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup (Aus T20 WC). His coaching experience also includes stints with India A and Assam senior men’s team.
Ghosh played domestic cricket for Assam and Railways before switching to coaching. He was a right-handed batter and appeared in 17 first-class matches and 17 List A games as a player.
On the other hand, it is a successful end for T Dilip with the Indian men’s side. He first became a part of the coaching setup in 2021 and continued with the team until the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2024-25. Dilip then returned for India’s 2025 Test tour of England on a one-year contract – that agreement wasn’t renewed when it expired.
There has been another change in the India support staff, with assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate quitting after the white-ball tour of England. He later took on a new job as the franchise’s Head of Cricket Strategy with IPL side Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
The Indian squad will commence its Sri Lanka tour preparations with a three-day practice game in Colombo starting from August 7. The first Test of the series will commence on August 15 in Galle, and the second Test is slated for August 23 at Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) venue in Colombo.
